While modern communication methods have largely supplanted a need for a traditional PBX, I find keeping alive legacy telephony systems with the help of software like Asterisk to have some utility for myself. Not just for restoring payphones but for understanding telephony systems in general.

As an experiment on our MeshCore network, I created a VoIP-to-MeshCore dial-in number (+1-617-665-6986) where you can leave a voicemail that is broadcast to everyone on the mesh network.
